Why it matters: Fake websites look identical to real ones. Bookmark the real URL so you never accidentally enter credentials on a phishing site.

How to do it: Search for the exchange on official channels (Twitter/X, official blog), check the SSL certificate (padlock icon), and never click exchange links from random messages, emails, or DMs.

Why it matters: Passwords alone are not enough. 2FA adds a second layer even if your password is stolen in a data breach.

How to do it: Download Google Authenticator or Authy, scan the QR code in your exchange security settings, and save the backup codes in a safe offline location. Avoid SMS 2FA if possible.

Why it matters: Phishing emails pretend to be from your exchange. An anti-phishing code proves an email is really from them.

How to do it: In your exchange security settings, set a custom code (for example, a short word or number). Every legitimate email from the exchange will include this code at the top. If an email does not have it, it is a scam.

Why it matters: Most exchanges require identity verification (KYC) before you can trade or withdraw. Being unprepared can delay your access for days.

How to do it: Prepare a government-issued ID and possibly a selfie. Verification can take minutes to days depending on volume. Do not use fake documents or someone else's ID.

Why it matters: If you lose access to 2FA or forget your password, recovery information is your only way back into your account.

How to do it: Write down backup codes and store them offline (paper in a safe, or a hardware backup device). Do NOT store them in your email, cloud drive, or notes app. Keep your registered email secure with its own strong password and 2FA.

Detailed Setup Guide

🔎 Step 1: Verify the Official Website

Before creating an account, visit the exchange through a search engine result you trust, or type the URL manually. Look for "https://" and the padlock icon. Bookmark the exact login page and use that bookmark every time. Avoid searching "Binance login" and clicking ads, scammers often buy those ad slots.

🔒 Step 2: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Go to Security Settings > Two-Factor Authentication. Choose an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator) over SMS. Scan the QR code with your app, enter the 6-digit code to confirm, and immediately save the backup codes. If you lose your phone, backup codes are the only way to recover access.

📩 Step 3: Set an Anti-Phishing Code

In Security Settings, find "Anti-Phishing Code" or "Email Verification Code." Create a unique code (e.g., "BlueFox2025"). From now on, every real email from the exchange will include this code in the header or body. If you receive an email claiming to be from the exchange without this code, delete it immediately.

📄 Step 4: Understand the KYC Process

Navigate to Identity Verification or KYC. You will typically need: a passport, driver's license, or national ID; a selfie holding the document; and sometimes proof of address. Ensure good lighting and clear images. Do not edit or crop the document edges. Verification may be instant or take up to 5 business days.

🗃 Step 5: Save Account Security Information

Print or write down all backup codes and store them in a physical safe or a secure offline location. Update your registered email password to a unique, strong password and enable 2FA on that email too. Consider using a dedicated email address only for your crypto exchange accounts.

⚠️

Important Safety Notice

Even with all security measures in place, never store large amounts of cryptocurrency on an exchange. Exchanges can be hacked, freeze withdrawals, or go bankrupt. For long-term holdings, consider a hardware wallet (cold storage) where you control the private keys.
